The Great Christmas Light Fight shines bright at the American Reality Television Awards!

The Great Christmas Light Fight has become an American tradition for the holidays. It is as iconic as holiday classics like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and the Grinch and is a special so many – including me – look forward to every year! The show has its hosts, the talented Taniya Nayak and Carter Oosterhouse, travel the country looking for the most festive displays of the season. The contestants are all real life families that have been chosen through an extensive nationwide search. The casting (click here for details on how to enter) actually begins much earlier during the summer. The families will film their episode in November or December and the show then airs in time for the holidays! There have been 11 total seasons of the Great Christmas Light Fight that have already aired! The 12th season begins today December 5, 2024. With the premiere happening tonight, it is only fitting that The Great Christmas Light Fight found out earlier today that they won as “Best Outstanding Home Series” at the 11th Annual American Reality Television Awards! Congratulations to the whole team!

The Great Christmas Light Fight is unique in that it gives opportunities to so many families to shine and share their festive spirit with viewers around the world. The creativity and artistry of the families seems to level up with each year! The displays have become more complex. Moreover, more homes are beginning to incorporate advanced technology to bring their displays to life! Each episode shows four families whose journey is shown from the start of their build to when the host arrives. The homes are judged on the complexity and uniqueness of their displays. It is always fascinating to see how families turn a normal house into a winter wonderland. Most families begin working on their displays months before the winter season. The homes that I’ve found most interesting are those that are able to make their house disappear into the display. That is, where they transform the space into a new world where one can’t tell where the home is and the display begins. The winner is chosen by the hosts who then return to the family’s home that wins to present the $50,000 prize! It’s a tough job as each family has worked hard!

Do watch today’s premiere and share who you think should have won!
